Camel meat is very similar to beef, but it is purer, lighter in color and has a sweeter taste. Some describe it as a cross between beef and lamb with a hint of game. In Australia, the wild camels have become a real plague. They were imported from Africa in the 18th century as a beast of burden and were later given freedom. In the absence of natural enemies, the "ships of the desert" multiplied noticeably. Local farmers started to hunt the camels because they destroyed their lands and thus the governement intervened and regulised the whole proces.
