Blesbok » AnimalThe blesbok (Damaliscus dorcas) has been completely wiped out in its natural biotope, the grasslands and upland plains of eastern and central Africa. It survived in wildlife reserves and on 'farms'. There the population was so well reconstituted that the blesbok can now again be bred for its delicious meat. The Dutch prefix 'bles' refers to the white patch on its forehead and nose. The blesbok's diet mainly consists of grasses. In contrast to most antelopes the blesbok is a mediocre jumper. For this reason blesboks found another method for escaping from predators. They run behind each other and against the wind. Blesbok are found in herds and are highly territorial.
