Kudu » AnimalThe kudu (Tragelaphus strepsiceros) is the second largest antelope. Like its larger relative, the eland, the kudu has vertical white stripes on its back. Kudus live in plains and hills covered with bushes where they eat leaves, fruit and grass. They are shy animals. When danger threatens they will stand motionless for a long time. If they have to flee, they curl their tails up onto their backs so that other kudus can easily follow their white behinds. The kudu stags' horns are extremely desirable hunting trophies. They are beautifully turned and can be up to one and a half metres long. The females does have no horns. They appraoch water carefully and are large mobile at night.
